  80.           SETTING YOUR SYSTEM FOR A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF OPEN FILES

  82. VERY IMPORTANT!  If you wish to "try" this program before doing a "full"
  83. installation by using SETUP.EXE, it is necessary to set your CONFIG.SYS
  84. Boot-Up file so that it contains the following command line...,

  88.                         MEMORY REQUIREMENTS
  89.  
  90. If you run GPP and get an ERROR MESSAGE which looks something like,
  91. "Error 07 in modual GP3 at address 408B:15C6", the "07" Error code means
  92. there was an "Out Of Memory" error (there is a whole page about error
  93. code definations in the instruction manual GPP.DOC).
  94.  
  95. This would mean that you have less than the 500k of FREE RAM available,
  96. which is about the amount that GPP needs to operate (without EMS).
  97. Memory Resident programs are usually the cause of this problem. Run
  98. either of these MS-DOS files to check for free (lower) RAM memory:
  99. MEM.EXE or CHKDSK.EXE. If you find that you have less than 500k of the
  100. lower 640k of RAM available, then remove some Memory Resident programs
  101. or unnecessary Device Drivers to free up more space.
  102.  
  103. Another Option: If you have a 386 or 486 (or newer) computer, set up
  104. your machine to use at least 1 meg of "EMS" (Extended Memory) by
  105. installing "EMM386" in your CONFIG.SYS file (see MS/DOS Manual -
  106. EMM386). Use of EMS will add speed to GPP, and will allow it to use
  107. about 100k LESS of the lower 640k RAM.
  108.  
  109.                         NEW KIND OF DATA FILE
  110.  
  111. Data files created with either of the older "GIST-ORIGINAL" or
  112. "GIST-PLUS" programs are NOT compatible with this new "GIST-PLUS(+)"
  113. program.

  115. New Registered Users will receive a support file named "CONVERT.EXE"
  116. which will convert and combine the older INVOICE.REC and CUSTOMER.REC
  117. files from "GIST-PLUS 3.0" (and higher) into a new GPP ISAM data file.

  121. If you have never used this program before, and are just "checking it
  122. out" to see if it does what you want, then answer "Y" (for YES) when
  123. asked if you  want to "USE THE SAMPLE DATA FILES?". A "yes" answer will
  124. provide you with  a couple of demo data files which show many of the
  125. features  of this program,  and save YOU the time and trouble of
  126. entering your own data just to "try" this program.
